Puppies Saved from The Midwest Puppy Mill

100 puppies were rescued from the Midwest for being treated with cruel, inhumane acts. These puppies were thought not expected to survive as long as they did, nor were they ever expected to have a good home. North Shore Animal Clinic was kind enough to rescue all 100 of these puppies, with hopes of getting them the homes the deserve.

North Shore will groom, bathe, feed, and give a full examination to these puppies to see what their ailments are, if any and get them on a road to recovery. With all of this done, and the puppies soon to be well, hopefully many people will come in and rescue these cute pups. North Shore is the second largest rescue organization in the world who believes in the "no- kill" policy. What this means, is that, instead of euthanizing a dog because they are sick, they will nurse them back to health and give them a home if no one else will. This is why they took in all of these puppies from the puppy mill in Missouri and Oklahoma.

Let's discuss a little bit about exactly what a "puppy mill" is. It is when a person uses their home for breeding purposes and no matter how many puppies they acquire, they keep them and continue to breed. Once the puppies can no longer breed, they are killed soon after their last litter is produced or sold for about $1.00!

With that said, these dogs will be evaluated by the veterinarian and put up for adoption on Friday or Saturday at the latest. Please come and save a puppy or two.

Is This Guy CRAZY?

On today's episode of Dr. Phil, Rob Rogers, a former leader of dogfighting rings appeared and shared his views. Although he served 6 months in jail for his heinous crime, it proves to have done no good.

This guy can't be for real? I'm convinced there's something seriously wrong with him and he should be put away in a mental institution, forget jail for 6 months. I cannot fathom how anyone can think this is ok or think there is nothing wrong with this and that it's a "sport."

It was very, very hard for me to watch this episode of Dr. Phil, I only did it to open up the eyes of narrow minded people and show them the stupidity that exists in this world, and the atrocities of dog fighting, and further more, the disgustingness (my own word) of this man.

This guy thinks this blood sport is no different than boxing or caged fighting amongst humans. Really? How about he goes into a ring with his worst enemy, who's much more prepared as a fighter than he is and much bigger and we see how he comes out? That would be fun to watch(at least for me). He even had the audacity to say that these dogs are "well taken care of." Umm...the last time I checked, half, if not all of these dogs die in the ring, or are killed afterwards by their owner. So if this is what he considers "well taken care of," I'd love to take care of him.

"The law is wrong for banning dog fighting," stated Rogers as the crowd gasped in astonishment. This guy needs an evaluation, quick. And to think he only served 6 months and was then allowed to be free amongst human society, when he is clearly not human, nor does he have humane thoughts.

The funniest quote by far, "I don't use chains...I use weights," while the audience sighed in disbelief. Is that any better? If you ask me, that's 10 times worse, but I forgot, "that's the game."

This guy has killed a couple hundred dogs in his lifetime, killing some by shooting them because he thinks "it was more humane to kill them, than to have them starve or hurt." I'm not getting this guy, maybe it's me. Rogers says some of the things that should be considered abuse are "starving your dog or beating them." Because fighting them is any better?

I'm so glad the guys from Rescue Ink came and gave this guy a piece of their mind, because someone had to (being that I couldn't hop through the screen as I wished I could). They said something effective, "these dogs start on a chain and end in the ring." What kind of life is that and why is this guy free in his community and breathing MY air? Why didn't he serve YEARS in prison and why is he married?

The words I have towards this episode and towards this guys thoughts are beyond verbal expression. I'm left speechless and wish something or someone could get through his thick, disgusting head. He has no remorse for all the dogs he's killed and thinks the law is wrong for banning this "sport." I wish one day someone could express their feelings to him, with their fist to his face. Better yet, maybe someone should do to him what he does and did to these dogs. If he breaks his leg or gets hurt in the most minute way, should someone "kill them by a bullet" as Rogers so calmly stated?

Watching this was by far, one of the hardest thing I've had to do. I did it to be the voice of this breed and to help them get the love they deserved.

Tuesday on Dr. Phil

While watching Dr. Phil today (I like to catch his show when I have time), I saw a preview for upcoming shows. I was horrified when I saw the preview for Tuesdays show; a guy who supports dog fighting will be on there, showing videos and speaking about how he's fought over 100 dogs. I wish this guy life in prison. After I watch the show (hoping I can catch it), I will post more information about this disgusting behavior. I hope many people can watch this also, to see how horrifying this "sport" is.

My Nosey Girls

They're just as nosey as you or I. This is an example of human-like qualities dogs possess, EVEN pit bulls. This is also an example which denotes the myth of pit bulls always wanting to attack smaller dogs. Gucci is 6-7 lbs at most and Fendi would not let anyone hurt her. She is her protector, so get that crazy thought out of your heads.

To "Fix" or To Breed? That Is The Question?!

Hey all! I’m about to talk to you guys on a personal note, and explain to you how upset I am and why. For all of you who have dogs and didn’t mate them, or don’t plan to, you’ll know exactly where I’m coming from. It’s “fix” them, or breed them. In other words, get them spayed or neutered or mate them. I was always against mating my pit for a number of reasons, number one being that I refuse to mate my pit and have a bunch of pit puppies distributed and obtained by the wrong people (that would just create a vicious cycle). The 2nd reason being that, I did not want to destroy my dogs body. She is very fit and once she gets pregnant, everything goes hay wire (kind of like women).

So now here is the upsetting part. I never planned on mating Fendi as you know, and I certainly did not want to get her “fixed” because that would also make her fat, so it’s kind of like a lose lose situation. What I didn’t know is that by not doing either is harming her, and will eventually shorten her life span. I want to give a thanks to the guy in my neighborhood, who walks his pit on a daily basis for telling me this info. So with this said and done, I panicked. Shorten her life span? Surgery? Are you kidding me? Not my Fendi, what else can I do to get out of this? Nothing, this has to be done.

Immediately I run to call the vet to schedule an appointment, there is one bad thing; Dogs usually get “fixed” within their first few months of life, Fendi is now 7. Scary huh? Tell me about it. Her scheduled date is May 21st, and I’m dreading every moment of it. Why is a dogs life so complicated? Let me answer that; it is because they are like humans in many ways.

The reason I am posting this is because I want to give insight to those of you who didn’t know that mating or “fixing” can kill your dog. I am going to give you some more in depth information on the particulars of spaying or neutering your pup.

If you DO NOT spay/neuter you dog, this is what can happen:
1. Unwanted puppies can occur, leaving them with no home, or a bad home
2. Females, if not spayed between 6-9 months of age can develop mammary (breast) cancer
3. Dogs can become aggressive
4. Females and males will urinate in your home
5. Prostate problems occur


If you DO spay/neuter your dog, these are the perks:
1. Reduced chance of developing mammary cancer (females)
2. Spayed females can’t develop pyometra (an infection of the uterus that can result in death)
3. Less likely to roam
4. Better temperament develops
5. Longer overall life span
6. Prevents prostate problems
7. Just overall, the right thing to do, even if it seems horrible for US, it’s what’s best for our pups!

Now let me tell you what spaying is and which gender this applies to. Spaying is for female dogs. This involves the removal of both of the uterus and the ovaries. Neutering is, by default, for the male dogs. This involves castration, better known as the removal of the dogs testicles (ouch)! But it’s just as bad for both male and females, let’s not have more sympathy for one over the other.

Now I’ve heard that once a dog is over 5, the surgery is a little more detailed, not impossible, just a little harder. The minute I heard this, my heart fell into my big toe, not something I wanted to hear being that I love my dog sometimes more than humans. However, this is not a CHOICE for me, you or any dog owner. So if you’re considering doing this soon, here are some aftercare instructions:

1. Restrict jumping and playing for 7 days (activity can cause the incision to open)
2. Keep your dog away from other animals (rough play can be dangerous)
3. Check surgery site daily
4. Wait 10 days after surgery to bathe your dog
5. If your dog begins to vomit, contact your vet right away

Although surgery seems to be a scary word and the fact that our dogs are receiving anesthesia is a very scary thing, but we are also being selfish and not understanding that in the long run, these dogs will be much happier and live a much more healthy life. My situation is a little different, my pit is older than the normal age of 6-9 months, and this is because (as I stated), I did not intend to ever do this, I didn’t think it was such a severe thing, but I’m glad I found out sooner than later.

What I need people to know and to never forget is that a dog requires the same health care that humans do. DO NOT purchase or adopt a dog without being willing to accept the responsibilities that come with it. This is where unwanted puppies come into play, as well as dogs dieing unnecessarily, when whatever ailment they had could have been cared for. So with all that said, let’s pray for Fendi on this surgery I am dreading.

Today begins National Pet Week--Let's Pamper Our Pits!

Hello my fellow pit and animal lovers. Today begins the official National Pet Week. It is held from May 2nd-8th, 2010. What does this mean you ask? Very simple; time to pamper your pit and treat him/her like your child. Kids get pampered when it’s their Birthday or when they receive Communion or for some big affair, but now you have a WEEK, an OFFICIAL WEEK just to do the same for your pit/pet. Time to put our mani and pedi appointments on hold, because it’s pit/pet time!!

A Little History of This Breed & How They've Come To What They Are Now

What bothers me so much about people and what is said about pits, is the fact that people are so quick to judge based upon what they hear, rather than knowing facts and finding out for themselves. Before people are so quick to judge our precious pit bull breed, ask yourselves, do you know their history? Do you know where they've come from? Do you know anything? Let me answer that question for a majority of people….NO! So here, let me give you some insight.

Pit bulls were originally given the name “nursemaid’s dogs” because they were so trusted and reliable with young children. So what is it that I hear? They like to attack children and kill them? I think not, this is where the owners come in to play in training our dogs to be something their not. It's sad to say, but a majority of the owners who wish to have a pit, want them for the wrong reasons. They are wanted to breed for fighting reasons and to make money or exchange drug deals. Sounds like I’m stereotyping huh? I’m not! It’s statistically proven that a 9 out of 10 of the fighting rings that are shut down, belong to drug dealers or people who have past felony records.

Pit bulls are descendants of the original English bull baiting dogs. These dogs were bred to attack large animals, such as bulls, bears or anything else large you can think of. They had to attack these animals around their face and heads. They were then trained not to let go until they could not longer hold on from exhaustion and from loss of blood. This animal baiting was banned in the 1800’s, this is when people started fighting these dogs against each other. This seemed to become a “sport“, leading breeders to breed a more athletic breed of dogs. These dogs made there way to North America and are now related to pit bulls.

This breed got there negative correlated name when people decided they wanted a “macho” looking dog (a Pomeranian just wouldn’t do anymore). They wanted these dogs to become a breed which no longer were to be vicious against each other, but to also be vicious to people. These dogs came into this world with no anticipation of being anything but loving, caring, loyal dogs; but upon being bred to an owner with an ulterior motive, they had no choice but to obey, or die. This is where people have a huge delusion of thinking this is how “they are” or “they have something in their brain that makes them snap”. No people, they are trained and forced into a lifestyle because that’s the only one they know of.

As stated in a previously, dog fighting is now banned in all 50 states, but that is not stopping the undercover fighting rings. These dogs are involuntarily pushed to fight until they are to the point of no return or until they are killed, that’s normal for these sick, demented people. Another common way in which is used to antagonize the dogs and cause them to be more ferocious, is for other animals to be thrown in the rings. Such as rabbits, cats or rodents. These small creatures are used as “bait” (sounds like they’re going fishing huh?).

So it makes us think, how do most of these dogs survive once they are so badly injured? The truth behind the walls….veterinarians are sometimes paid off to care for the injured dogs. We look at them as a cure for our pets, but according to some, this is the truth. Who else gets a piece of the pay? Lawyers, teachers, judges and I’m sure many, many more whom are failed to get mentioned. Can’t we see this epidemic? No one is as wholesome as they seem, no matter what their job title is or what they may “practice”. Money talks and BS walks.

Let’s talk some statistics now. In March of 2000, “the ASPCA asked representative U.S. shelters about their experiences with pit bulls. Thirty-five percent take in at least one pit bull a day, and in one out of four shelters, pits and pit mixes make up more than 20 percent of the shelter dog population. New York, Chicago, Boston, Phoenix and Honolulu each saw 3,000 to 7,500 pits turned in during the previous year. One shelter staffer recounted hundreds of abuse cases that came through their doors-pit bulls who had been burned, beaten, and fought with." “According to the shelters surveyed, a third do not adopt Pit Bulls out—some because it is against the law to have them in their communities, and others are concerned where the dogs will ultimately end up. Sadly, in these cases, the dogs are euthanized.” (aspca.org)

So now, with a little history given about the breed, their fighting background and more, I have to ask, when will the ignorance and cruelty end? Now the truth is out there, it’s time the right people began to take the blame and understand that an animal is taught their behavior once it has become domesticated. It’s out of their paws once they are adopted, rescued, purchased, wherever they were obtained from. They now become a prized possession in which people take for granted. It’s like saying to a parent, “your child is an animal with no morals because that’s how you’ve raised him/here.” It’s not the childs' fault. They emulate what they see and what they were taught or NOT taught. People must open their eyes up to the rotten core of the apple-- THE OWNERS!!!! I have stressed this over and over throughout my blog postings, but I don’t think it can be stressed enough because it seems that the negativity will never end.
